Brother David’s Abbey Style Ale
“It’s as close to heaven as you can get!!”
Earl Anderson – Midland Park, NJ
Brother David’s Double Abbey Style Ale 9% ABV
27 IBU
Exceptionally Great; something special
Celebrator Beer News Blind Tasting Panel – Oct. / Nov. 2005
Rich mahogany appearance. Firm and substantial head that slowly fades to dry fruit aromas including apricot, figs, raisins, as well as malt and spice notes. The full body of this Belgian style ale supports initial fruit flavors that give way to malt notes and chocolate covered cherries, while suffused throughout with the distinctive flavor of the Belgian Abbey yeast. It finishes rather spicy and quite dry, with the warmth of its 9% alcohol. The flavors become more pronounced, blending and complementing each other as the beer warms. If you like Belgian beer, you owe it to yourself to try this American brewed Belgian-style beer.
Brother David’s Triple Abbey Style Ale 10% ABV
33 IBU
Very Good; worth seeking out
Celebrator Beer News Blind Tasting Panel
A bright dry aroma tops off this deeply complex Belgian-style beer that has over tones of malt, fruit, and freshly mown fields. The intensity of the higher alcohol is rounded out by the deep richness of the malt and the light hop flavors. Light and pale in color, a nice malt backbone holds up the highlights of spicy hops intermingled with yeast esters and aromas. The triple (or “tripel” as the Belgian’s call it) is a medium-bodied strong Belgian-style beer, with just a touch of mild malt sweetness and a dry finish on the palate.
The comparatively light body of this beer is achieved by substantial additions of candy sugar in the kettle and medium-high carbonation level. The hopping has been kept low, with the use of classic European hop varieties to give just a hint of spiciness.

While driving through Mendocino with my folks to go camping we stopped for gas. We asked some locals where we could get a beer, and they couldn’t stop talking about the brewery. Drove over, tried just about everything on the tasting menu, but the double and triple really stood out. I’ve found that a Molly Stones two blocks from my house sells them both, happier days ever since!

I was looking for a double that was like the Belgian Maredsous. I like your double even more. I will now be a regular customer. Thanks!!

Hi, just wanted to agree with the others that your Brother David’s Triple is awesome!
It reminds me of a local brew “exit 4″ series. I like the taste of yours better.
Good job!

Absolutely delicious. After trying the excellent Triple, I found your Double to be simply amazing: a delicious beer that has a sweet, complicated flavor and wonderful aroma. The muted hoppiness of this this beer compliments the hint of spice. The Double easily surpasses a certain well-known beer by Gulden as my favorite Belgian-style ale.

OK, the Triple is good, the Double is really something special. The flavor is exquisite – it’s so dark and malty, it just transports me when I drink it. I don’t care about the steep price – it’s worth every penny. I love dark beers, and in my extensive quest, Brother David’s Double Style Ale is hands-down the best!

I am especially fond of the ESB and of course the IPA and the Poleeko Gold and the Boont Amber oh what the hell I love ALL of them. But my most recent find and now my new love is the Brother David’s Double Abbey Style Ale. Your writing on the bottle is only too true. It’s as close to heaven as you can get!! I must bow to you for making the best beers I have ever tasted.

My husband and I love your beer. My husband and I had a chance to visit your brewery this summer and tried one of your special brews the double and triple…(I forgot the names). It was the first beer we found in the US that really reminded us of a good Belgium beer. We bought 3 cases and every time we open a bottle we talk about how much fun we had when we visited your brewery.
Thanks for your great beer

Brother’s David Triple Abbey Style Ale is the best beer I have ever had. Y’all have perfected it. How about sending a broke 22 year old college student some good beer so he doesn’t have to drink cheap shitty beer. Much thanks.

Hi Folks, I’m enjoying a bottle of Brother David’s Double Abbey-style Ale as I write this email, so please excuse any typo’s! I enjoy quality beers from various brewers every chance I get. I’m familiar with most of your stock brews. I’ve been to your brewery once many years ago, so I know your a quality outfit., but… THIS BREW IS FANTASTIC!!! I told my local beer store that if he keeps stocking this beer, I’ll go BROKE!! He doesn’t have the TRIPLE ALE. Thanks for that, I’d be asking for a loan! Just wanted to say, I’ve never emailed any brewer before about anything, but I HAD to let you know how much I’m enjoying this beer! THANK YOU, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, a devoted fan of your brews, Charlie

Brother Davids is the best. I went diving off the coast last week and picked one up on the way home. I will get a few every time I go Abalone diving to have with dinner from now on. Great job and keep up the great work.

To Bro David Virgins: If you’re ever in Mendecino County and have a chance to swing by the Anderson Valley Brewing Company, you must get a bottle or two of their Brother David’s Triple. Remember that name. Tattoo it on your forehead if necessary (might be an improvement; run the idea past your spouse). Bro David’s Triple has more flavor and more subtlety at the same time than any other beer I’ve tried. It kind of hits you in waves, and is almost a religious experience. It also has 10% abv, so you won’t be feeling religious for very long.
You might be thinking to yourself that this is a little over the top, but then, you’ve never tried this beer.

I just got off work and picked up a 22 oz. bottle of Brother David’s Triple. This beer is incredible. It rivals some of better Belgian ales that I’ve had. Great job guys!
