SAN DIEGO, CA - APRIL 19, 2008 - ANDERSON VALLEY BREWING COMPANY TAKES BRONZE FOR BROTHER DAVID'S DOUBLE AT THE 2008 WORLD BEER CUP.
AVBC's Brother David's Double took the bronze medal in the 'Belgian-Style Dark Strong Ale" category at the 2008 Brewers Association World Beer Cup in San Diego. Brewers from five continents earned awards from an elite international panel of judges. The seventh bi-annual competition awarded medals to brewers from 21 countries ranging from Australia and Italy to Bolivia and Japan. This year, 644 breweries from 58 countries and 45 U.S. states vied for awards with 2,864 beers entered in 91 beer style categories. The top three entries in each category won gold, silver and bronze medals. Brewmaster Ken Allen and Head Brewer Neil Atkins were present to receive the award for their abbey style ale. AVBC's award-winning abbey style ales are named after David Keene, owner of the world-famous Toronado in San Francisco, who was also on-hand to congratulate Dr. Allen and Mr. Atkins. In response to receiving the award, Mr. Atkins remarked, "It is an honor for us to win a medal in the Belgian Style category at the World Beer Cup. It is a great tribute to all of our hard working staff. Congratulations to all the other winners". Anderson Valley Brewing Company has been crafting award-winning beers for over two decades in the town of Boonville, CA., which is located in the picturesque Anderson Valley of Mendocino County.
